Chapter 6 - WHISPERS IN THE ESTATE
Marcus squeezed her shoulder firmly to keep her grounded.
"The baby Julian is holding... isn't yours," Marcus dropped the bombshell.
Evelyn felt as if her entire world had exploded into pieces.
"No... no, that’s impossible!" she cried out, covering her mouth.
"Julian found out your baby had a congenital condition that required expensive treatment," Marcus explained.
"He didn't want an imperfect heir," he added bitterly.
"So he bought a healthy child from the illegal adoption ring and gave yours away," Marcus revealed.
Evelyn's eyes burned with a terrifying combination of anguish and fury.
"Where is my real baby?!" she demanded, grabbing Marcus's coat.
"I don't know the exact location, but Victoria does," Marcus admitted.
"Victoria?" Evelyn asked, remembering the note in her pocket.
"Victoria was the one who arranged the transfer," Marcus said coldly.
"Her defense of you in the ballroom was nothing but a performance to protect herself," he added.
Evelyn realized she was trapped in a web made entirely of monsters.
"Take me to Victoria's private quarters," Evelyn demanded through gritted teeth.

"I don't care about the danger anymore," she spat back. "I want my child."
