Chapter 11 - THE ACCIDENTAL DISCOVERY

Evelyn realized she had less than two hours before her baby was sold forever.
She checked her stolen phone; the battery was critically low at four percent.
She needed transport, but she was miles away from the main city roads.
She stumbled out of the woods and reached a desolate two-lane highway.
In the distance, two bright headlights approached through the thick fog.
Evelyn ran into the middle of the road and waved her arms frantically.
The car slammed on its brakes, tires screeching loudly on the wet asphalt.
The driver rolled down the window, looking furious.
"Are you crazy, lady?!" the driver yelled.
Evelyn ran to the driver's side window, breathless and bleeding.
"Please... please help me," she sobbed. "My baby is in danger."
The driver looked at her torn dress, her bruises, and the desperation in her eyes.
"Get in," the driver said, unlocking the passenger door.
Evelyn climbed inside, holding the leather journal tightly against her chest.

"Where are we going?" the driver asked, stepping on the gas.
"Saint Jude Orphanage... and please, drive as fast as you can," Evelyn pleaded.
