Chapter 12 - A POISONED PROMISE

The car sped down the dark highway toward the city.
Evelyn tried to stay awake, but the exhaustion and physical trauma were overwhelming.
"Who did this to you?" the driver asked, glancing at her bruised face.
"My husband... Julian Sterling," Evelyn whispered softly.
The driver's hands visibly tightened on the steering wheel.
"Julian Sterling?" the driver repeated, his voice suddenly changing tone.
Evelyn noticed a strange tattoo on the driver’s wrist—a snake wrapped around a dagger.
It was the same symbol printed on the security badges at the Sterling estate.
Her heart dropped straight into her stomach.
She had gotten into a car driven by one of Julian’s off-duty mercenaries.
The driver reached down to tap his Bluetooth earpiece.
"Sir, I have her," the driver said into his mic with a cold grin.
"She jumped right into my lap," he added.
