Chapter 5 - THE VANISHING EVIDENCE
Evelyn stared at Marcus in complete shock.
"Why are you helping me?" she whispered after he removed his hand.
"Because I know what Julian did to your sister," Marcus said grimly.
Evelyn’s breath caught in her throat.
"My sister? What does my sister have to do with this?" she asked, her mind racing.
"Julian didn't just target you, Evelyn," Marcus revealed.
"He targeted your entire family to take control of your father's estate," he explained.
Evelyn felt the floor slipping out from beneath her feet.
"Where is my baby?" she demanded, focusing on her immediate priority.
"Julian sent the baby with a nurse to the downtown clinic for a staged checkup," Marcus replied.
"He is planning to file for full sole custody within the hour," he added.
"I need to get to that clinic right now," Evelyn declared.
"You can't leave through the front gates; the guards have orders to shoot on sight," Marcus warned.
He handed her a keycard and a small flash drive.
"This drive contains the footage from the night your baby was swapped," Marcus said softly.

"Swapped?" she gasped. "What do you mean swapped?!"
