Chapter 16 - SILENCING THE WITNESS
"Get in the car!" Clara screamed, pushing Evelyn into the silver sports car.
Clara jumped into the driver's seat and slammed the pedal to the floor.
The sports car roared out of the alley seconds before the SUV smashed into the wall.
The SUV reversed immediately and gave chase down the city streets.
"Julian is desperate!" Clara yelled over the roar of the engine.
"He knows if you step into that courtroom with that baby and this journal, his life is over!" she shouted.
Evelyn looked back through the rear window.
The SUV was gaining on them, ramming into their rear bumper with a sickening metallic crunch.
"Hold on!" Clara shouted, pulling the handbrake and executing a sharp drift onto Main Street.
The heavy morning traffic was dense, creating a maze of cars.
The SUV tried to follow, but collided head-on with a city bus, grinding to a halt.
Smoke billowed from the SUV's engine bay as police cruisers surrounded it with sirens blaring.

Clara didn't stop to watch; she sped straight toward the downtown District Courthouse.
They pulled up to the front steps of the courthouse at 8:55 AM.
