Chapter 9 - The Leap of Despair

The glass shattered into thousands of tiny glistening pieces.
The wind and rain rushed violently into the luxury bedroom.
The guards lunged forward to grab Elena's arms.
Elena dodged the first guard and jumped backward through the broken frame.
She fell through the dark air, landing heavily on the soft garden soil below.
Sharp pain shot up through her ankle and left arm.
"She jumped! Get down there now!" Victoria screamed from above.
Flashlights lit up the dark garden, searching the bushes frantically.
Elena gritted her teeth, pushing through the agonizing physical pain.
She crawled through the mud, hiding under the dense hedge row.
Guards ran past her position, their boots splashing in muddy puddles.
Elena held her breath, pressing her face into the wet grass.
Once the footstep sounds faded into the distance, she pulled herself up.
She limped heavily toward the back edge of the large estate grounds.
Her vision was blurring from exhaustion, cold rain, and tears.
She collapsed against the wooden fence at the edge of the property.
Suddenly, the headlights of a black vehicle blinded her completely.
The car door opened, and a figure stepped out with a wide black umbrella.
Elena lifted her trembling hands, preparing to defend herself again.
"Get in, Elena, if you want to catch that airplane," a female voice said.
May you like
Elena gasped as she recognized the woman holding the umbrella.
It was Victoria’s personal assistant, whom she had trusted for years.
