Chapter 12 - A Mother's Fury

"They knew we were coming," Elena realized with horror.

"Victoria anticipated that I would turn against her," Sarah muttered grimly.

"We can't go in there directly without getting killed."

Elena looked around the dark harbor yard, searching for an advantage.

She noticed a massive forklift parked near a stack of wooden crates.

Keys were hanging directly from the vehicle's ignition switch.

A dangerous, desperate plan instantly formed inside Elena’s head.

"Sarah, can you hotwire the warehouse lighting panel?" Elena asked.

Sarah nodded quickly, pulling a set of small tools from her pocket.

"I can cut the main breaker, but you’ll only have ten seconds of darkness."

"Ten seconds is all I need," Elena said with ruthless determination.

Elena climbed quietly into the high seat of the heavy forklift.

She gripped the cold steering wheel with iron determination.

Sarah ran toward the electrical junction box behind the warehouse.

Elena waited, counting the agonizing beats of her own racing heart.

Suddenly, all the lights inside and outside the warehouse went out.

Total, pitch-black darkness enveloped the entire harbor pier.

Shouts of confusion and panic erupted from inside the building.
