Chapter 13 - Chaos in the Dark
Wood splintered violently as the forklift plowed into the building.
Guards screamed as heavy crates tumbled down around them.
Gunfire echoed wildly in the darkness, hitting metal beams harmlessly.
Elena leaped off the moving forklift before it crashed into a concrete pillar.
She dropped to her hands and knees, crawling rapidly toward the chair.
"Mommy! Mommy!" the little girl cried out in utter terror.
"I'm here, baby! I'm right here!" Elena called back desperately.
Elena reached the chair and used her pocket knife to slice the ropes.
The little girl threw her small arms around Elena's neck, sobbing hysterically.
"I knew you would come for me!" the girl wept into Elena's wet neck.
"I will never leave you again," Elena swore, lifting her into her arms.
Suddenly, the emergency backup generators hummed to life.
Fluorescent lights flickered on, illuminating the ruined warehouse floor.
Standing near the broken doorway was Victoria, holding a black pistol.
Her eyes were wild with unhinged, psychotic fury.
"You have ruined everything, Elena!" Victoria screamed maniacally.

"If I can't have the child's legacy, nobody will!" Victoria shouted.
