Chapter 15 - The Unraveling
Police cars slammed their brakes outside, red and blue lights flashing wildly.
Armed officers swarmed the warehouse, securing the dangerous scene.
Paramedics rushed toward Victoria to treat her gunshot wound.
Victoria was handcuffed to a stretcher, cursing loudly at everyone around her.
"You haven't won! My lawyers will tear you apart!" Victoria shrieked insane threats.
Elena ignored her completely, kissing her daughter's forehead repeatedly.
Sarah walked over, placing a warm blanket over Elena's shivering shoulders.
"It's finally over, Elena," Sarah said softly with a gentle smile.
"She will spend the rest of her miserable life behind bars."
Elena nodded, holding her daughter tighter as the police recorded statements.
The lead investigator walked up to Elena with a serious expression.
"Mrs. Elena, we need you to come to the station to sign the release forms."
"Of course," Elena said, standing up with her child in her arms.
As they walked out into the cool morning air, the sun began to rise.
Golden sunlight broke through the heavy gray storm clouds above the ocean.
Elena felt a profound sense of peace returning to her battered heart.
They stepped into the back of a police vehicle to head to headquarters.
The driver started the engine and pulled out of the harbor area.

Elena looked at the driver's face in the rearview mirror and froze.
It was Arthur, dressed in a stolen police uniform, smiling sinisterly at her.
