Chapter 16 - The Last Ride
Elena's blood ran ice-cold as the doors automatically locked tight.
"Did you really think it would be that easy, Elena?" Arthur sneered dark laughter.
The little girl whimpered softly, feeling her mother's sudden intense fear.
"Where are you taking us?!" Elena yelled, banging frantically against the glass divider.
"My mother is weak, but I am not," Arthur spat out viciously.
"She wanted money, but I want revenge for what you did to our family."
The stolen police car accelerated down the highway at dangerous speeds.
Elena looked out the window, watching the city disappear behind them.
They were heading toward the steep cliffs overlooking the jagged ocean rocks.
"You're crazy! You'll kill us all!" Elena screamed, trying to force the lock open.
"That's the whole point, my dear Elena," Arthur laughed psychotically.
"If I can't have the fortune, none of us get to leave this mountain alive!"
Elena looked down at her daughter, who was crying silently in total terror.
She knew she had to act immediately before they reached the cliff edge.

She reached into her coat pocket and felt the sharp metal of her pocket knife.
She leaned forward, pointing the sharp blade directly at Arthur's neck through the gap.
