Chapter 7 - Betrayal in the Shadows

They sprinted through the wet trees, hiding in the shadows.
The alarms on the property began to blare loudly.
Guards ran frantically toward the burning main gate.
Arthur swiped the keycard, and the side steel door unlocked with a click.
Elena slid inside the warm, quiet service hallway of the mansion.
"Where is she keeping my daughter?" Elena whispered anxiously.
"In the master bedroom on the second floor," Arthur replied quietly.
They crept up the carpeted staircase, avoiding the security cameras.
Elena's heart was beating like a war drum in her chest.
They reached the grand hallway outside the heavy mahogany door.
Elena reached for the brass doorknob, her hands shaking violently.
She slowly turned the knob and pushed the door open.
The room was completely dark and eerily silent.
Elena stepped inside, rushing toward the large canopy bed.
She pulled back the silk blankets, but the bed was entirely empty.
Suddenly, the lights flooded the room with blinding brightness.
Victoria was standing by the fireplace, holding a glass of wine.
Beside her stood four armed security men with drawn weapons.

Victoria smiled brightly and raised her glass toward Elena.
"Thank you for bringing her right to me, Arthur," Victoria said smoothly.
