Chapter 20 - The Dawn of a New Day
Elena lay on the soft grass, breathing heavily as the sun rose completely.
Her daughter collapsed onto her chest, wrapping her small arms around her neck.
They held each other tightly, crying tears of sheer survival and ultimate victory.
The sound of approaching sirens filled the air once again.
This time, real police vehicles and ambulances pulled up along the ruined highway.
Officers rushed out, gasping when they saw the broken guardrail and the fire below.
"Over here! We need medical help!" an officer shouted frantically.
Paramedics wrapped warm blankets around both Elena and her precious daughter.
The police captain walked over, dropping to one knee beside Elena.
"Victoria and her entire network have been taken into federal custody," the captain reported.
"Your legal rights are fully restored, and you are both completely safe now."
Elena looked down at her daughter, who finally offered a sweet, peaceful smile.
The nightmare that had haunted their lives for so long was officially over.
No more running, no more lies, and no more terrifying hidden shadows.
Elena kissed her daughter's forehead softly, holding her close to her heart.
"Let's go home, baby," Elena whispered gently into the morning breeze.
"Yes, Mommy... let's go home," the little girl answered softly.
