Chapter 19 - Falling to Freedom

The sudden loss of Arthur's weight made the car tilt violently forward.
The rear window slammed against the rocky ledge, shattering the glass completely.
"Now, baby! Crawl out now!" Elena screamed, pushing her daughter out first.
The little girl scrambled through the broken rear window onto the solid grass.
Elena tried to follow, but her foot got tangled in a loose seatbelt wire.
The police car began its final slide down the steep, muddy cliff face.
"Mommy! Give me your hand!" the little girl screamed, reaching out from the ledge.
Elena pulled her pocket knife and slashed frantically at the tangled seatbelt.
The nylon strap snapped just as the car lost all contact with the land.
Elena lunged forward through the broken rear window with all her remaining strength.
Her fingers caught the slippery edge of the muddy grass embankment.
The police car plunged down into the abyss, exploding against the rocks below.
A massive fireball erupted into the morning sky, sending black smoke rising.
Elena hung over the drop, her strength rapidly draining from her tired arms.
"I've got you, Mommy!" the little girl cried, grabbing Elena's hands with all her strength.
