Chapter 9 - The Siege of Glass

Smoke billowed through the luxurious apartment.
Automatic gunfire tore through the furniture.
Gabriel fired back blindly, dropping the first operative who rounded the couch.
Julian scrambled toward the balcony, screaming for mercy.
A mercenary grabbed Julian by his neck and dragged him away.
"Where is the girl?" the commander shouted through the smoke.
Gabriel popped up from behind the couch, clearing two shots into the commander's chest.
The body crumpled to the floor.
Gabriel sprinted through the smoke toward the balcony.
Julian was already being hauled into a hovering stealth helicopter.
"Gabriel, help me!" Julian screamed, dangling from the bay door.
The chopper’s side gunner aimed a heavy machine gun down at the balcony.
Gabriel threw himself into a roll as bullets tore the concrete tiles to dust.
The helicopter pulled away into the storm-ridden night sky.
Gabriel picked himself up, coughing through the smoke.
He ran back into the apartment.
The dead mercenary commander lay near the ruined coffee table.
Gabriel searched the mercenary's tactical vest quickly.
In an armored case attached to the vest, he found three sealed syringes filled with blue liquid.
It was the antidote.
Gabriel snatched the case and sprinted back toward the private elevator.
His phone buzzed in his pocket.
It was Doc Vance.

"Gabriel, hurry!" Doc Vance’s voice was filled with panic over the receiver.
