Julian’s penthouse overlooked the gleaming skyline of Manhattan.
The elevator doors opened directly into the glass-walled living room.
Julian was pouring himself a glass of whiskey.
He turned around and froze.
His glass shattered on the marble floor.
Gabriel stood in the doorway, soaked in rain and blood.
"Gabriel?" Julian stuttered, backing away.
"You... you’re supposed to be at the cemetery."
"The funeral was interrupted," Gabriel said, stepping into the room.
"Bruno found something in the casket."
Julian’s face went pale.
"What are you talking about?" Julian asked, his voice trembling.
"He found a heartbeat, Julian," Gabriel said softly.
Gabriel walked toward his brother with heavy, slow steps.
"My daughter is breathing."
"And Marco left me a very interesting chemical vial before he died."
Julian reached toward the desk drawer behind him.
Gabriel drew his gun and shot the desk lamp beside Julian’s head.
The explosion of sparks made Julian scream and drop to his knees.
