Chapter 11 - The Rebirth
Seconds felt like agonizing hours in the dim clinic basement.
The continuous hum of the flatline monitor pierced Gabriel’s ears.
Doc Vance stepped back, shaking his head slowly.
"Gabriel... I'm so sorry," the doctor whispered.
"No," Gabriel snarled, grabbing the doctor’s jacket.
"Do something!"
Bruno let out a sharp, ear-splitting bark.
,The dog placed his heavy paws onto the side of the metal table.
Bruno began licking Mia’s cold cheek with desperate urgency.
Suddenly, a tiny gasp broke the stillness.
The monitor beeped once.
Then twice.
Beep... Beep... Beep...
Mia’s chest heaved upward as air filled her lungs.
Her long eyelashes fluttered open.
Gabriel collapsed to his knees beside the bed, holding her small hand.
"Daddy?" Mia croaked in a weak, dry voice.
Tears cut through the blood and grime on Gabriel’s face.
"I'm here, baby," Gabriel said, his voice cracking.
"You're safe now."
Bruno rested his massive head gently on Mia’s stomach, tail wagging slowly.
Mia’s hand reached out, feebly touching the dog's soft fur.
"Bruno..." she whispered softly.
Gabriel stood up, his tear-filled eyes suddenly hardening like steel.
"Doc, keep her hidden and protected," Gabriel ordered.
