Chapter 2 - Whispers in the Corridor

surged forward, recording every second on their phones.Flashlights blinded Maya, and mocking laughter echoed down the marble hallway.
"Look at her crying!" someone shouted from the back.
"She’s just faking it for sympathy!" another voice jeered.
Leo stood up, blocking the cameras with his broad frame.
"Turn those damn phones off!" Leo screamed at the crowd.
Nobody listened.
Instead, Marcus leaned down and kicked Maya’s dropped notebook into the open trash can nearby.
"Oops, my foot slipped," Marcus snickered, high-fiving the bully beside him.
Maya gasped, crawling frantically toward the trash can to save her notes.
Leo felt a surge of white-hot rage consume his chest.
He grabbed Marcus by the collar and slammed him hard against the locker bank.

"Are you seriously defending this charity case over your own friends, Leo?" Marcus sneered back. "You don't even know what she's hiding."
