Chapter 14 - Over the Abyss
Maya looked across the dark alley.
The distance between the two roof edges was nearly eight feet.
In the pouring rain, with a prosthetic leg, the jump was practically impossible.
"I can't make that jump, Leo!" she cried out. "Leave me!"
"I am never leaving you again!" Leo shouted back, holding out his hand firmly. "Trust me!"
Behind them, the apartment door crashed down as the thugs burst onto the fire escape platform.
"Jump!" Leo screamed, grabbing Maya by the waist.
They hurled themselves across the black void between the two buildings.

For a terrifying second, they floated in mid-air above the alleyway below.
Maya’s foot missed the slippery edge of the opposite roof, and she began to slide down the wet brick wall into the drop!
