Chapter 17 - The Secret Cipher
Maya opened Julian’s black leather journal to the very last page.
Instead of written words, the page contained rows of complex numeric codes and a set of GPS coordinates.
"Look at this code format," Leo said, leaning in closer. "Julian used to play chess with me every weekend."
"It's a algebraic chess notation cipher!" Leo exclaimed, his eyes lighting up.
He pulled out a pen and quickly translated the numbers into letters using their old childhood chessboard layout.
The decoded message revealed a hidden web server address and a master password.
"Julian recorded everything," Maya whispered in awe as the text formed sentences. "Audio files, bank transaction receipts, illegal wire transfers... everything Marcus’s father did!"
"And look at the GPS coordinate at the bottom," Leo pointed out.

The coordinate pointed to the grand auditorium at their high school.
"The annual School Board Gala is happening there tomorrow night," Leo said grimly.
