Chapter 17 - CHOICE UNDER FIRE

The rhythmic ticking of the device under Leo’s chair filled the cold warehouse.

Leo’s eyes were wide with terror, tears streaming onto his taped mouth.

Richard and Victoria backed away toward the rear exit, guarded by their two armed men.

"Ten minutes, Eleanor," Victoria taunted, her voice fading as they retreated.

"Choose who dies tonight."

Eleanor didn't waste a single second.

She bolted up the metal staircase toward the catwalk.

One of the armed guards turned back and raised his rifle toward her.

Eleanor lunged forward, slamming her body weight into the guard’s knees.

The guard lost his footing on the slippery steel railing and tumbled over the side.

He landed heavily on the concrete floor below with a sickening crash.

The second guard panicked, raised his pistol, and fired blindly.

The bullet grazed Eleanor’s shoulder, tearing through her coat.

She gritted her teeth against the scorching pain and drove her shoulder into his stomach.

She grabbed his wrist, twisting it until he dropped the weapon.

With a powerful kick, she pushed him down the stairs.

She scrambled over to Leo and dropped to her knees beside his chair.
