Chapter 16 - THE TICKING CLOCK

"Where is Arthur now?" Eleanor demanded, taking a slow step toward the stairs.

"He's safely tucked away in a private clinic," Victoria’s voice echoed from the shadows.

Victoria walked out from behind a row of shipping containers, holding a small remote control device.

"A clinic where he will quietly slip into a coma due to 'smoke inhalation complications,'" Victoria added with a cold smirk.

"His seventh birthday is in less than two hours."

"Once midnight strikes, the trust expires, and everything transfers to Richard."

Eleanor looked up at the digital clock mounted on the warehouse wall.

It read: 10:15 PM.

She had less than two hours to save both Leo and Arthur.

"You won't get away with this," Eleanor said, her teeth clenched tight.

"Who is going to stop us?" Richard mocked, gesturing to his armed guards.

"A disgraced maid wanted for arson?"

Victoria pressed a red button on the remote control she was holding.

A high-pitched, rhythmic ticking sound began to echo through the warehouse.

Strapped to the bottom of Leo’s chair was a small black box with a flashing red light.

"You have twenty minutes to choose, Eleanor," Victoria said with a sickening smile.

"Save your little brother, or run to the clinic to save Arthur."

"You can't save both."
