Chapter 10 - THE UNEXPECTED ALLY
Eleanor walked through the pouring rain until she reached a public phone booth.
Her clothes were soaked in rain, blood, and mud.
She dialed a number from memory and waited nervously as the line tone rang.
On the third ring, a deep voice answered.
"Hello?"
"Officer Miller... it's Eleanor," she whispered into the receiver.
There was a long, tense pause on the other end of the line.
"Eleanor, where are you?" Miller said, his tone hushed and urgent.
" broadcasted an alert across the whole district for your arrest."
"I know," Eleanor said, her voice shaking violently.
"Vance is working with Richard Sterling."
"They tried to kill me at the estate tonight."
Miller let out a heavy breath on the line.
"I saw Vance leave the precinct with Richard earlier," Miller admitted softly.
"Something didn't feel right to me."
"I have the proof, Miller," Eleanor pressed, her eyes scanning the dark streets.
"I have the signed contract proving Richard hired an arsonist to kill Arthur."
