Chapter 7 - The Kidnapper's Call

Evelyn’s phone rang inside her purse.
An unknown number flashed on the screen.
Her heart pounded frantically against her ribs.
She answered, bringing the phone to her ear.
"Hello, Evelyn," a distorted electronic voice spoke.
"Where is my daughter?!" Evelyn screamed into the phone.
"She is safe for now," the voice answered coldly.
"If you ever want to see her again, do not trust Jax."
"Who are you?!" Evelyn demanded, her tears falling.
"Look inside your pocket," the voice instructed before hanging up.
Evelyn reached into her coat pocket with a trembling hand.
She pulled out a small, folded piece of paper.
It hadn't been there before.
