Chapter 6 - Ambush at the Tavern

The air in the tavern turned deadly silent.

The lead gunman scanned the room, stopping his gaze on Evelyn.

"Target acquired," the man muttered into his radio headset.

Jax moved with lightning speed.

He flipped the heavy wooden table over, shielding Evelyn.

Bullets shattered the glassware behind the bar.

Screams erupted as patrons scrambled for the exit.

"Run through the back door!" Jax shouted.

Evelyn didn't hesitate.

She ducked down and sprinted toward the kitchen.

A gunman stepped into her path, raising his weapon.

Evelyn grabbed a heavy iron skillet from the stove.

She swung it with brutal force into his side.

The man collapsed onto the tile floor.

Jax pushed open the back exit door, breathing heavily.

"They know we're together now," Jax panted.

"Who sent them?" Evelyn demanded.

"The same person who sent the man in the wine suit," Jax replied.
