Chapter 6 - The Vanishing Identity

Jax stared in utter disbelief at the dissolving photograph.
The water had washed away the black ink layer.
Martha's young face stared back from three decades in the past.
She was holding an infant with a small, distinctive birthmark on its left shoulder.
Jax instinctively reached for his own collar, covering his neck.
"Martha..." Jax breathed, his voice barely a whisper.
Martha stood completely still behind the counter.
Her hands were shaking violently as she stared at the damp paper.
"You weren't supposed to see that," Martha whispered, her tears cutting tracks through the grease on her cheeks.
"See what?!" Jax shouted over the howling wind outside.
"What is going on here?!"
Thomas let out a sharp, cold laugh.
"She kept the secret for thirty years, Jax," Thomas sneered.
"You think you're Marcus's brother?"
"You're not even a member of the family."
The sniper laser dots shifted slightly on Jax’s chest, burning hot through his leather vest.
The boy suddenly dropped to his knees, clutching his head in pain.

"My ears..." the boy screamed, writhing on the glass-covered floor.
A high-pitched frequency erupted from the boy's jacket pocket.
