Chapter 19 - The Governor’s Trap

"I thought I killed you in the tunnel, Thomas," Marcus growled into his radio transmitter.

"You broke three of my ribs, you monster," Thomas’s voice came back over the loudspeaker.

"But Governor Vance has very good doctors."

The man in the suit leaned toward the microphone.

"Welcome home, boys," Governor Vance said, his voice smooth and commanding.

"Did you really think I wouldn't track the silver key?"

"The snail key has a GPS tracker built into the casing," Vance laughed softly.

"You brought yourselves right into the execution chamber."

Heavy steel gates slammed shut behind Jax and Marcus, locking them inside the courtyard.

Armed security guards in black tactical gear appeared along the catwalks above.

At least twenty red laser sights painted Jax and Marcus's chests.

"You're out of options, Jax," Vance said through the speaker.

"Throw the key into the center of the yard, and I might let the boy live."

Jax looked at Marcus, but Marcus wasn't looking at the guards.

Marcus was looking down at his own wrist device, a timer counting down from 60 seconds.

"What did you do, Marcus?" Jax asked, realizing the horror of the situation.

"I didn't come here to get the paper, Jax," Marcus whispered, his synthetic eye glowing faint red.

"I came to detonate the demolition charges early."
