Chapter 9 - THE CALL

Victoria sat inside the heavily fortified Vance mansion, staring at a bank of monitors.
Her injuries had been cleaned and bandaged by a private doctor.
She had exchanged her ruined wedding dress for a sleek, dark tactical suit.
Her phone on the table began to vibrate with an unknown number.
Victoria answered it instantly and put it on speaker.
"Victoria Vance," Marcus Vane’s voice drifted through the speaker.
"Mr. Vane," Victoria replied without a hint of fear.
"I see you managed to clean up your useless henchman."
A dry laugh came from the other end of the line.
"Julian is currently tied up in my processing facility," Marcus said smoothly.
"He is crying and begging for his life."
"It’s quite a pathetic display, really."
"Why are you calling me, Marcus?" Victoria asked directly.
"You have something that belongs to me," Marcus replied, his tone turning dark.
"The drive."
"Bring it to the old shipping docks at midnight."
"Alone."
"If I see a single Vance security guard, I will send Julian to you in pieces."
Victoria laughed softly, a cold and terrifying sound.
"Do you really think I care about Julian’s life, Marcus?" Victoria mocked.
"He cheated on me, humiliated me, and tried to destroy my family."
"You can skin him alive for all I care."
There was a brief silence on the other end of the line.
Marcus hadn't expected such an indifferent response.
"If you don't care about his life, why did you spend three years with him?" Marcus questioned, trying to regain control.
"To gather evidence against you," Victoria replied plainly.
"I will see you at midnight, Marcus."
"But I won't be coming to negotiate."
May you like
"I will be coming to put an end to your network."
She hung up the call before Marcus could respond.
