Chapter 6 - SHADOWS OF THE PAST

While Julian was fleeing through the rain, Victoria stepped into her father’s sleek black limousine.
The luxury vehicle glided smoothly through the wet city streets.
Arthur handed her a hot cup of tea and wrapped a warm cashmere blanket over her shoulders.
"You did well, my child," Arthur said softly.
"But you carried this burden alone for too long."
Victoria stared out the tinted window at the rain splashing against the glass.
"I had to prove to myself that I didn't need your name to survive, Dad," she murmured.
"And you proved it," Arthur agreed.
"But now, the game has changed."
"The people behind Julian’s illegal syndicate... they aren't small-time criminals."
Victoria turned her head sharply toward her father.
"What do you mean?" she asked.
"Julian was just a foolish pawn," Arthur said gravely.
"The syndicate he was laundering money for belongs to the Vane family."
Victoria’s heart skipped a beat.
" reached out to the Vanes?" she gasped.
"Yes," Arthur confirmed.
"And Marcus Vane has been looking for an excuse to dismantle our family empire for decades."
"By exposing Julian, you exposed Marcus Vane’s primary money pipeline."
"He will not sit back and let this pass."
Suddenly, the limousine slammed on its brakes with a sharp screech of tires.
Victoria was thrown forward against her seatbelt.
Outside, three heavy black SUVs pulled up, blocking the intersection completely.

The doors of the SUVs opened simultaneously.
Men dressed in full tactical gear and holding automatic weapons stepped out into the rain.
