Chapter 7 - AMBUSH IN THE RAIN
"Stay down!" Arthur ordered instantly, pushing Victoria toward the floorboards.
The limousine’s bulletproof glass rattled violently as heavy gunfire rained down upon them.
Sparks flew off the reinforced armor of the car.
Arthur’s security detail immediately exited their trailing escort vehicles, returning fire.
The dark street transformed into a warzone within seconds.
Inside the car, Victoria’s heart pounded against her ribs.
She reached into her coat pocket and pulled out a small silver device she had hidden earlier.
It was a encrypted flash drive she had recovered from Julian’s secret vault before the wedding.
"Dad," Victoria said, her voice steady despite the terrifying noise outside.
"They aren't here to kill us."
Arthur looked at her, his brow furrowed. "What makes you say that?"
"They are here for this," she said, holding up the drive.
"Julian didn't just launder money."
"He recorded every single conversation with Marcus Vane."
"This drive contains the location of Marcus Vane's primary offshore accounts and his private mercenary grid."
Arthur’s eyes widened with profound realization.
"You took the master key," Arthur whispered.
"Yes," Victoria smiled grimly.
"Julian thought he was playing me, but I was using him to get to the real monster."
Outside, the heavy gunfire began to taper off.
Arthur’s elite security force was rapidly overpowering the attackers.
A chief bodyguard knocked on the driver's window, giving a clear signal.
"Sir, the area is secured for now," the guard reported through the radio.
"More enemy reinforcements are coming from the north grid."
