Chapter 2 - THE DEBTS ARE DUE

Sophia froze in her tracks, her lavish wedding dress trembling.

"You must be the woman who thought my daughter’s husband belonged to you," Arthur said, approaching her slowly.

"Sir, I didn't know!" Sophia cried out, her eyes wide with terror.

"Julian told me she was just a penniless orphan!"

Julian glared at Sophia with fury.

"Shut up, Sophia!" Julian screamed.

Arthur raised his hand slightly, and two bodyguards immediately pinned Julian to the floor.

Julian’s face was slammed against the cold tiles, right where Victoria had been lying moments ago.

"Look at the floor, young man," Arthur said coldly.

"That is the dirt my daughter was forced to touch because of you."

"Your company, the Sterling Group, relied on an anonymous ten-million-dollar investment three years ago, didn't it?"

Julian’s eyes widened in horror.

"How... how do you know that?" Julian gasped.

"Because that money belonged to Victoria," Arthur said flatly.

"She gave up her fortune to build your foolish dreams."

"And you used her money to buy diamonds for another woman."

Arthur pulled out his phone and tapped the screen once.

"Cancel the contracts," Arthur commanded into the receiver.

"Seize every asset under the Sterling name."

"Freeze their personal bank accounts, liquidate their properties, and file the fraud lawsuits immediately."

Within seconds, Julian’s phone began ringing frantically.

Then his mother’s phone rang.

Then the phones of every board member present in the room began to chime.

Panic erupted across the ballroom.

Notifications swept through the crowd like a deadly plague.

Julian pulled out his phone with trembling hands.

Bank account balance: zero.

Company stock value: plummeted to absolute rock bottom.

Bankruptcy notices were already flooding his email.

"No... no! This can't be happening!" Julian shrieked, clutching his head.

Victoria slowly rose to her feet, supported by her father’s arm.

She looked down at the man she once loved, her eyes cold and devoid of pity.

"This is only the beginning, Julian," Victoria said softly.
