Chapter 18 - THE FINAL FLIGHT

Rain lashed against the tarmac at Private Hangar 4.
A massive, sleek black luxury jet sat on the runway, its engines roaring as they spooled up for takeoff.
Arthur Vance walked up the boarding stairs, holding his gold-headed cane tightly in one hand and a metallic briefcase in the other.
His senior security guards surrounded the perimeter of the aircraft.
Arthur stepped inside the luxurious cabin and sat down in a leather seat.
He poured himself a glass of expensive scotch and smiled to himself.
"To a new life," Arthur toasted quietly, raising his glass to the empty cabin.
Suddenly, the jet’s engines violently cut off with a sputtering whine.
All the lights inside the cabin instantly went dark.
Arthur frowned, setting his glass down sharply on the table.
"What is going on up there?!" Arthur shouted toward the cockpit.
"Captain! Why did the engines stop?!"
The heavy cabin door behind him slowly creaked open.
Rain splashed into the luxury cabin from the outside air.
A tall figure stepped out of the darkness and into the dim emergency lighting of the jet.
Arthur’s eyes bulged in pure terror as he recognized the face.
Victoria stood there, wearing a black trench coat dripping with rain water.
In her right hand, she held a sleek black detonator.

In her left hand, she held the faded photograph of her real parents.
"Did you really think twelve hours of oxygen would hold me, Arthur?" Victoria asked softly.
