Chapter 4 - The Ransom Note
Nathan panicked, screaming his son's name down the long, empty corridor.
"Leo! Leo! Where are you?!"
Nurses and security guards rushed toward the commotion.
Nathan grabbed the head guard by his collar.
"Lock down this building right now!" Nathan roared.
"My son was just kidnapped!"
The hospital alarm sounded, flashing red lights along the walls.
Nathan’s phone buzzed violently in his pocket.
It was an unknown number.
He answered instantly, his hand shaking uncontrollably.
"Where is my son?!" Nathan demanded into the speaker.
A distorted, deep voice answered from the other end.
"You took away my future, Nathan," the voice rasped.
"Now I take away yours."
"Vanessa, I know it's you!" Nathan screamed.
"If you hurt him, I will tear you apart!"
"Listen carefully, Nathan," the voice sneered, ignoring his threat.
"Go to the old pier at the edge of the harbor alone."
"Bring the master key to your father’s estate vault."
"If I see a single police officer, the boy goes into the ocean."
The call disconnected immediately.
Nathan looked back at the emergency room door where his mother was unconscious.
He was trapped between saving his mother and saving his child.
He pulled out a hidden flash drive from his pocket.

He ran toward the hospital exit, leaving everything behind.
