Chapter 14 - Hospital Lockdown
Nathan threw off his blanket and sprinted straight for his car.
"Nathan! Stop! Where are you going?!" Chief Miller screamed, running after him.
"She’s at the hospital! She’s going after my mother!" Nathan roared over his shoulder.
He jumped into the driver's seat and slammed the door shut.
He didn't wait for the police escort.
He sped onto the main highway, pushing the engine to its maximum limit.
The city streetlights blurred past him in a golden streak.
Ten agonizing minutes later, Nathan slammed his brakes in front of the hospital entrance.
He burst through the sliding glass doors, ignoring the security guards at the front desk.
He took the stairs three at a time, bypassing the slow elevators.
He reached the fourth-floor Intensive Care Unit, panting heavily.
The hallway was strangely dark and completely quiet.
The medical staff desk was completely unmanned.
Nathan approached Room 402, where his mother was recovering.
He slowly pushed the heavy wooden door open.
