Chapter 19 - The Final Betrayal
Veronica paused at the exit door, hearing her sister’s helpless screams.
She looked back through the thick, rising cloud of white steam.
"Veronica! Help me!" Vanessa begged, struggling under Nathan’s weight.
"Don't leave me here!"
Veronica looked at the exit door, then looked at her twin sister.
A cold, calculating expression appeared in her eyes.
"Sorry, sister," Veronica whispered coldly.
"There was only ever enough room in paradise for one of us."
Veronica pushed the heavy exit door open and sprinted up the stairs toward the roof.
Vanessa gasped in total horror at her own twin's cold betrayal.
"You traitorous bitch!" Vanessa screamed, crying tears of pure rage.
Chief Miller quickly handcuffed Vanessa to a heavy iron steam pipe.
"Stay with her!" Nathan yelled to Chief Miller.
"I'm going after Veronica!"
Nathan ran through the thick steam, rushing up the concrete staircase toward the roof.
He climbed four flights of stairs without slowing down for a second.
He burst through the roof access doors into the cold night air.
The roaring sound of helicopter blades deafened his ears.

A black charter helicopter was hovering just ten feet above the landing pad.
Veronica was holding on to the rope ladder, pulling herself up toward the open cabin door.
