Chapter 13 - Breakout at Dawn
At 3:00 AM, the sirens inside the federal detention facility began to wail.
A sudden power surge killed the main generator, plunging the entire facility into darkness.
Emergency doors unlocked automatically due to a programmed safety protocol override.
Richard slipped out of his cell, navigating the dark corridors from memory.
He met Victoria at the secondary maintenance hatch near the laundry facility.
"Julian's chip worked," Victoria said, breathing heavily.
"He hacked the facility grid from the harbor," she added.
They pushed through the heavy emergency exit door, spilling out into the cold morning air.
A black armored delivery van pulled up to the curb, its side door sliding open.
Julian sat in the driver's seat, his shoulder bandaged and his face pale.
"Get in, both of you!" Julian yelled over the sound of the revving engine.
Richard climbed into the back, staring at the brother he thought was dead.
"You survived the fall," Richard stated flatly.

"The tide carried me to the docks," Julian replied without turning around.
"Now shut up and hold on, because Eleanor’s mercenaries are hunting us," Julian warned.
