Chapter 16 - The Broken Engagement
Victoria stepped out from behind the heavy marble pillar, her face pale as snow.
She was wearing a sparkling diamond engagement ring, holding the arm of Julian Vance, Arthur’s heir.
Julian looked back and forth between Victoria, Ethan, and the bankrupt bank terminals on his tablet.
"What is the meaning of this, Victoria?!" Julian shouted, shoving her away violently.
"Julian, please! Listen to me! My father said we were taking control!" she cried, stumbling.
"Your father is a broke criminal!" Julian spat, ripping his ring off his finger.
He tossed the diamond ring at her feet, where it bounced uselessly across the marble.
"The engagement is over," Julian sneered as he backed toward the security guards.
Victoria dropped to her knees on the cold floor, clutching her gown.
The elite socialites who had praised her hours ago turned their backs on her completely.
Ethan walked slowly past her, his heavy steps echoing in the quiet room.
