Chapter 13 - Blackmail at Sunset

The orange light of the setting sun reflected off the waters of the marina.
Victoria stood alone near the railing, her phone pressed tightly to her ear.
Her hands shook uncontrollably as she watched the news updates on her screen.
Every news outlet was broadcasting Ethan’s immediate release and full pardon.
"How did he get out?!" Victoria hissed into the phone.
"I told you he wasn't a normal man," her father's voice panicked over the line.
Suddenly, a sleek black envelope dropped onto the wooden railing beside her.
Victoria gasped and spun around, but the pier behind her was completely empty.
She picked up the envelope with trembling fingers and tore it open.
Inside was a high-resolution photograph from the diner parking lot.
It clearly showed her installing the tracking device beneath Ethan's vehicle.
