Chapter 8 - THE HUNT BEGINS

The morning sun broke through the heavy smog, casting a sickly yellow light over the city.
Marcus watched the smoke rise from the destroyed foundry from miles away.
"He thinks we're dead," Sarah said, bandaging her scratched arms.
"That gives us an advantage, but not for long," Marcus noted grimly.
"He will verify the bodies soon."
Leo sat quietly near the river edge, skipping flat stones across the dark water.
"My mother told me Vance killed my father too," Leo spoke suddenly, his voice emotionless.
"She said he made it look like a car accident."
Marcus knelt beside the boy and placed a firm hand on his shoulder.
"We are going to make him pay for everything, Leo," Marcus promised.
"I don't want him to pay," Leo replied, looking up with dark, mature eyes.
"I want him stopped forever."
Sarah finished going through the stolen black flash drives on a portable laptop.
"Marcus, look at this," she called out urgently.
"Vance has scheduled a private charity gala tonight at his estate."
"He plans to announce the 'tragic loss' of his newborn baby to win public sympathy."
"He's using the child's fake death to launch his campaign for Governor."
"What about the actual baby?" Marcus asked sharply.
"She’s still safe with my sister in the countryside," Sarah assured him.
"Then tonight, we crash his party," Marcus declared coldly.
"We expose him in front of the entire state media."
"It's a suicide mission, Marcus," Sarah warned.

"He will have fifty armed guards at that mansion."
"Then we make sure the media sees everything before his guards can pull their triggers," Marcus said.
