Chapter 16 - THE FINAL BLOW
Marcus struggled desperately to tear Vance's fingers off his neck.
Strength was draining from his limbs as darkness crept into the edges of his vision.
Through the haze, he saw Leo crawling toward the yacht's heavy iron anchor lever.
"Leo... no..." Marcus choked out weakly.
Leo grabbed the heavy release handle with both hands.
"This is for my mother!" Leo screamed, pulling the lever down with his entire body weight.
The massive iron anchor dropped instantly, its heavy steel chain whipping across the deck at extreme speed.
The swinging chain struck Vance across his back with immense force.
Vance was hurled off Marcus and dragged over the side of the yacht by the rushing chain.
A sickening splash echoed in the water below, followed by total silence.
The heavy anchor chain went taut, pulling the former mayor down into the dark, icy depths of the harbor.
Marcus gasped violently, sucking cool air back into his burning lungs.
He rolled over and looked up at the sky, rain washing the blood from his face.
Leo rushed to Marcus’s side, collapsing next to him in tears.
"Is it over?" Leo sobbed, hugging Marcus tightly around his neck.
Marcus wrapped his arms around the brave boy, holding him close.
"It's over, kid," Marcus whispered, his voice trembling with exhaustion.
"It's finally over."
In the distance, flashing red and blue lights illuminated the entire harbor as dozens of law enforcement vehicles arrived.

They were coming to clean up the remnants of Vance's fallen empire.
