Chapter 18 - THE BROTHER'S LEGACY

Marcus felt as if the ground were sinking beneath his feet.
"My brother... an undercover agent?" Marcus stammered, trying to process the words.
"He spent five years dismantling Vance's international syndicate," Agent Carter explained.
"Before he died, he encoded the master access keys to the syndicate's global network."
"Where?" Sarah stepped forward, shielding the stroller cautiously.
"Not in a computer drive," Agent Carter said, pointing down at the sleeping baby.
"He used advanced synthetic gene-markers."
"The encryption key is literally embedded within her biological code."
Leo stepped firmly in front of the stroller, his small hands curling into tight fists.
"You can't touch her!" Leo shouted fiercely at the agent.
"She's my sister! She's not a computer!"
Agent Carter softened her tone slightly, looking down at the defensive boy.
"I'm not here to harm her, son," Carter assured him gently.
"I'm here to protect her."
"Because the people Vance worked for just realized she is still alive."
Marcus stepped between Carter and the children, his body language turning hostile.
"Who are they?" Marcus asked through gritted teeth.
"They call themselves The Syndicate," Carter replied grimly.
"And their chief enforcer just landed in this city an hour ago."
Suddenly, Marcus’s phone vibrated violently in his pocket.
He pulled it out and answered the unknown caller.
A smooth, chilling voice spoke through the speaker.
"Hello, Officer Marcus," the voice said with absolute tranquility.
