Chapter 17 - UNANSWERED QUESTIONS

Two days later, the rain had finally stopped, leaving a clear blue sky over the city.
Marcus sat on a bench in the hospital garden, his arm in a shoulder sling.
Chief Brody and Richard Vance’s associates were all in federal custody awaiting trial.
Sarah walked into the garden, pushing a stroller wrapped in a soft pink blanket.
Leo walked closely beside her, holding a small bottle of milk.
"How are you feeling, Detective?" Sarah asked with a warm smile.
"Better now that I know you two are safe," Marcus replied, smiling at the baby.
Leo looked down at his infant sister, who was sleeping peacefully.
"We named her Hope," Leo said softly, touching her tiny hand.
"That's a beautiful name, Leo," Marcus said warmly.
Suddenly, an unmarked black sedan pulled up along the hospital curb.
A sharp-dressed woman stepped out, holding a thick official manila folder.
She walked straight toward Marcus, her face completely unreadable.
"Officer Marcus," she spoke, pulling out a federal badge.
"I am Agent Carter with the Federal Intelligence Bureau."
Marcus narrowed his eyes, feeling a familiar tension return to his chest.
"Vance's network is dismantled," Marcus stated defensively. "What do you want?"
Agent Carter opened the folder, revealing a series of old top-secret documents.
"Vance was just a small piece of a much larger operation," Agent Carter explained coldly.
"And your late brother wasn't just an innocent victim, Marcus."
Marcus stood up abruptly, his eyes wide with sudden shock.
"What are you talking about?" Marcus demanded.
Agent Carter looked directly at young Leo, who was listening intently.

"Your brother was our top undercover operative," Agent Carter revealed.
"And he hid something far more dangerous than money in that infant’s DNA."
