Chapter 4 - ROOFTOP BETRAYAL

The wind screamed across the hospital rooftop, driving rain into their faces.

A black unmarked helicopter hovered overhead, its searchlight blinding the area.

Near the edge of the roof stood a man in a black coat, holding the small pink bundle.

"Stop right there!" Marcus bellowed, raising his firearm.

reached the rooftop door just in time to see the confrontation.

"You're out of your depth, Marcus," the man called out over the roar of the blades.

The man lowered his hood, revealing Deputy Mayor Thomas, Richard's closest ally.

"You're killing an innocent child for money!" Marcus shouted against the gale.

"This child represents a billion-dollar inheritance!" Thomas yelled back.

"With her gone, Richard controls the city's entire infrastructure!"

"And what about Leo's mother?" Marcus demanded, stepping closer carefully.

"She was collateral damage!" Thomas sneered.

"She knew too much!"

Leo let out an animalistic roar of grief and charged forward before Marcus could stop him.

"You monster!" Leo screamed, tackling Thomas around the waist.

Thomas stumbled backward, losing his balance near the slick edge of the roof.

The pink bundle slipped from his hands and tumbled toward the drop.

"No!" Marcus lunged forward, sliding across the wet gravel.

Marcus caught the edge of the blanket just as it cleared the building's ledge.

He pulled the infant back against his chest, shielding her from the wind.

Meanwhile, Thomas kicked Leo off him and scrambled toward the helicopter ladder.

"You can't save them both, Marcus!" Thomas laughed maniacally as he grabbed the rung.

The helicopter immediately pulled up into the stormy clouds, disappearing into the night.

Marcus rushed over to Leo, who lay gasping on the cold concrete.

"Are you okay, kid?" Marcus asked anxiously.

Leo nodded weakly, looking at the baby safely wrapped in Marcus’s arms.

Suddenly, Marcus’s radio clicked on, static crackling loudly.
