Chapter 9 - THE TACTICAL GAMBIT

Sophia leaned her head back against the wall, her breathing shallow and labored.

"Victor is moving Elena to the airfield at midnight," Sophia revealed, her eyes burning with intensity.

"Once she boards that plane to Mexico, you will never see her again."

Jax’s mind raced as he processed the critical information.

"How many men does Victor have guarding the main manor?" Jax asked.

"At least forty fully armed mercenaries," Sophia replied grimly. "Plus Marcus and his elite squad."

"Going in there alone is a suicide mission, Jax."

"I'm not going in there alone," Jax said, a cold, ruthless smile forming on his face.

He walked over to the floorboards under the cabin's rug and pulled up a concealed trapdoor.

Inside the hidden basement locker lay an arsenal of military-grade weaponry, tactical gear, and explosives.

"You kept your old mercenary stash?" Sophia asked in astonishment.

"I retired from that life when Lily was born," Jax said softly, pulling out a tactical vest loaded with magazines.

"But Victor Vance forced me to bring the monster back out."

Jax turned to look at Lily, who had just woken up and was sitting quietly on the couch, staring at him with wide eyes.

"Daddy... are you wearing armor?" Lily asked innocently.

Jax walked over and knelt down beside his daughter, taking her hands into his own just like he had in the ballroom.

"Listen to me carefully, sweetie," Jax said gently, looking into her hazel eyes.

"Auntie Sophia is going to stay with you here in a safe place."

"Are you going to bring Mommy back?" Lily asked, her voice trembling.

Jax kissed her forehead deeply, holding back the tears threatening to spill from his eyes.

"I will bring your mother back, or I will die trying," Jax promised solemnly.

He pulled a small silver locket from around his neck and placed it in Lily's tiny hands.

"Keep this safe for me until I return," Jax whispered.

He stood up, slung a heavy assault rifle over his shoulder, and checked the chamber of his sidearm.

"Sophia, if I don't return by dawn, take the emergency money in the safe and run to Canada with her," Jax instructed firmly.

Sophia nodded weakly, gripping a spare pistol Jax handed to her.

"Give them hell, Jax," Sophia said quietly.

Jax didn't answer. He adjusted his tactical gear, stepped out into the misty morning air, and disappeared into the dense woods.
