Chapter 3 - CONDITIONS OF BETRAYAL

The grand ballroom fell into an agonizing silence.
Lily hid her face against Jax’s neck, her small frame shaking with rhythmic sobs.
"Name your condition," Elena whispered, her voice barely audible.
Victor looked at Jax with absolute disdain and malice.
"If Jax wants to keep the child alive, he leaves tonight," Victor commanded.
"Alone."
Jax’s eyes widened in disbelief.
"You're out of your mind," Jax spat out.
"If you refuse, I will declare you a traitor to the syndicate," Victor explained calmly.
"My men will hunt you down, and they will not care if the child gets caught in the crossfire."
"You wouldn't harm your own granddaughter," Jax said, trying to hold his ground.
"Try me," Victor replied, his eyes cold and lifeless.
Elena looked up at Jax, tears overflowing from her eyes.
"Jax... please," Elena cried softly. "Take Lily and go."
"I'm not leaving you here with him!" Jax yelled back.
"If you stay, we all die!" Elena screamed in sheer despair.
"He will never let us leave together!"
"Listen to your wife, Jax," Victor chimed in with a sinister chuckle. "She understands reality."
Jax squeezed his eyes shut as an unbearable pain seized his chest.
He looked down at Lily, who was looking up at him with tearful, confused hazel eyes.
"Daddy, are we going home?" Lily asked innocently.
Jax’s throat locked up, preventing him from speaking.
"Yes, baby," Jax managed to whisper through his tears. "Daddy is taking you somewhere safe."
He looked back at Elena, who gave him a agonizing, final nod of farewell.
"I will come back for you, Elena," Jax promised, his voice filled with venomous determination. "I swear on my life."
Victor sneered, waving his hand dismissively.
"Escort him to the gates," Victor ordered his men. "If he tries to contact Elena, kill them both."
Jax turned around, holding Lily tightly against his chest as he walked past the armed guards.
With every step he took away from Elena, he felt a piece of his soul tearing away.
As he reached the heavy oak doors, he heard Elena break down into hysterical weeping.
