Chapter 20 - THE DAWN OF ABSOLUTION
SPLASH!
The freezing ocean water engulfed Jax as he crashed into the churning waves below the lighthouse.
The ice-cold salt water hit his open shoulder wound, inflicting an agonizing surge of pain that nearly knocked him unconscious.
Underneath the dark water, Victoria struggled frantically, her hands clawing at Jax's throat as the heavy current pulled them both under.
Jax used his remaining strength to break her grip, kicking off the underwater rock face and pushing himself toward the surface.
He burst through the water's surface, gasping frantically for air amidst the towering waves.
Victoria was swept away into the violent ocean currents, disappearing into the pitch-black abyss of the sea.
Jax fought against the brutal current, swimming with everything he had toward the rocky shore.
His vision blurred, his limbs turning into heavy lead as hypothermia and blood loss took hold of his body.
He collapsed onto the wet sand of the beach, his chest heaving, his eyes staring up at the dark sky above.
Footsteps splashed through the shallow tide.
"Jax! Jax!" Elena’s hysterical voice echoed over the sound of the crashing waves.
Jax felt warm hands grab his face, pulling his head up onto her lap.
He opened his heavy eyes to see Elena crying tears of joy, holding little Lily close against her chest.
"Daddy!" Lily sobbed, throwing her small arms around his neck, burying her face into his wet cheek.
Jax let out a long, shuddering breath, his arms feebly wrapping around his wife and daughter.
"Are you... both okay?" Jax rasped out, his voice barely a whisper.
"We're safe, Jax," Elena wept, kissing his blood-stained forehead repeatedly. "It's over... it's finally over."
Above them on the coastal highway, the faint blue and red lights of local law enforcement sirens began to flash, accompanied by the sound of approaching police cars.
Sophia had managed to call the authorities before losing consciousness, bringing a full police force to secure the area and bring down the remaining remnants of the Vance syndicate.
Jax looked up at the sky as the dark storm clouds finally began to part, revealing the warm, golden hues of the rising sun on the horizon.
He pulled his daughter closer, feeling her small heart beating against his chest.
