Chapter 14 - THE TASTE OF ASHES

Silence returned to the dark corridor, heavy and suffocating.
Jax kept his gun pressed against Victor's head while using his free hand to retrieve the keycard from a fallen guard.
He swiped the card on the cell door, unlocking it completely.
Elena rushed out of the cell, throwning her arms around Jax, her body shaking hysterically.
"Is she safe? Is Lily really safe?" Elena wept into his neck.
"Sophia has her," Jax reassured her tightly. "We have to move before the rest of the estate guards realize what happened down here."
Jax stripped Victor of his radio, his phone, and his legal folder containing the signed confessions.
He shoved Victor hard against the wall, locking the heavy iron cell door behind them, trapping the wounded patriarch inside his own prison.
"You won't get out of the estate alive, Jax!" Victor screamed through the bars, his face twisted in pain and hatred.
"My men control every exit!"
"Then they better be ready to die for you," Jax replied coldly.
Jax grabbed Elena’s hand, leading her quickly up the narrow concrete stairs toward the estate’s main floor.
They emerged into the sprawling kitchen area, where alarms were already blaring loudly across the entire property.
Red emergency lights flashed in rhythm, casting blood-colored shadows across the white marble walls.
"Where do we go?" Elena asked, her voice trembling as she clutched Jax's arm.
"The underground garage," Jax said, reloading his rifle with a fresh magazine. "Victor keeps his armored limousine there."
As they turned the corner into the main hallway, a heavy shotgun blast shattered the wall right beside Jax's head.
Plaster debris showered over them.
Standing at the far end of the grand foyer was Marcus, holding a tactical shotgun, flanked by six elite mercenaries.
"You really don't know when to die, do you, brother?" Marcus sneered, racking another shell into the chamber.
May you like
Jax pushed Elena behind a massive marble pillar.
"I told you, Marcus," Jax called out, his voice echoing through the grand hall. "I promised I would tear you apart."
