Chapter 1 - THE VEIL OF SECRECY

The cold marble floor of the grand ballroom reflected the towering crystal chandeliers above.
Jax stood motionless in his tailored dark suit, his knees remaining firmly planted on the floor.
His hands tightly clasped the tiny, warm fingers of four-year-old Lily.
Tears streamed down his hardened face, cutting through the stoic facade he had maintained for decades.
"Dad..." Lily whispered, her voice echoing softly in the vast room.
Her hazel eyes shone with absolute innocence.
Jax felt his heart fracture into a thousand pieces as he pressed her small palm against his face.
Behind them, the room was silent except for the heavy breathing of armed guards standing in rigid formation.
The guards wore identical black suits, their faces expressionless, their eyes tracking every minor movement.
A few feet away stood Elena, clad in a shimmering gold sequin gown that caught the ambient light.
Her eyes were red and swollen, brimming with tears as she clutched her chest in agony.
"He has protected me all this time..." Elena sobbed, her voice trembling under the weight of a secret she had carried for four long years.
Jax looked up into Lily's pure, trusting eyes.
"My dear daughter," Jax choked out, his voice raspy and broken.
"I love you," he whispered, kissing her knuckles once more.
Suddenly, a heavy set of footsteps echoed from the grand arched doorway at the back of the ballroom.
The ambient warmth of the chandeliers seemed to drop into an icy chill.
The guards instantly shifted their stances, putting their hands inside their jackets on the grips of concealed handguns.
A tall, elderly man in an immaculate white suit walked in, accompanied by two menacing enforcers.
It was Victor Vance, the patriarch of the syndicate and Jax’s ruthlessly controlling father-in-law.
Victor cleared his throat, a cold, mocking smile playing upon his wrinkled lips.
"What a touching family reunion," Victor said, his voice dripping with venomous sarcasm.
Lily shrank back slightly, sensing the sudden surge of danger in the air.
Jax immediately stood up, shielding Lily behind his broad back.
"Victor, stay out of this," Jax growled, his jaw tightening as his emotional outburst dissolved into dangerous fury.
Victor stopped just a few paces away, eyeing the toddler with a calculated, chilling gaze.
"You really thought you could hide my granddaughter’s existence from me forever, Elena?" Victor asked, turning his sharp eyes toward the trembling woman in gold.
Elena took a step back, her face draining of all color.
"She isn't part of your world, Father," Elena pleaded, her voice cracking. "Please, leave her alone."
Victor chuckled softly, a sound completely devoid of human warmth.
"Every bloodline of the Vance empire belongs to me," Victor stated coldly.

He raised his hand and gestured to his personal enforcers.
"Take the child."
