Chapter 7 - The Blood Contract

The diner went dead silent as Jax slowly raised his hands into the air.
"Put the gun down, Vance," Jax said with a raspy, calm voice.
"You don't know what you're stepping into."
"I know you took my son!" Julian yelled, moving closer with his weapon drawn.
"I didn't take him!" Jax snapped back, eyes narrowing.
"Victoria dropped him off here twenty minutes ago with a briefcase of cash!"
"She told me he was my biological nephew!"
Leo looked back and forth between the adults, tears spilling down his cheeks.
"Daddy... is she lying?" Leo sobbed.
Clara rushed past Julian and scooped Leo into her arms, pulling him back.
"It's okay, Leo, you're safe now," Clara whispered, kissing the top of his head.
Jax pulled the folded piece of paper out from under his palm and tossed it to Julian.
"Read it, big shot," Jax said, a bitter smile touching his scarred lips.
Julian caught the paper with one hand, keeping his gun aimed with the other.
Unfolding the paper, his eyes scanned the rushed handwriting.
It was a contract signed in blood between Victoria and a legal black-market syndicate.
The contract transferred ownership of the Vance family holdings in exchange for Leo.
"She didn't just want your money, Julian," Jax revealed coldly.
"She sold your son's legal identity months ago."
"The moment you kicked her out, the buyers activated the claim."
Suddenly, the headlights of three black armored SUVs illuminated the diner windows.
Heavy footsteps pounded on the pavement outside.
Jax grimaced, pulling a shotgun from beneath the bar counter.

"They're here to collect their property," Jax muttered.
"And they aren't here to negotiate."
