Chapter 10 - The Fallen Empire

Julian looked at the silver briefcase resting on an oil drum in the center of the room.
Inside sat the legal deeds to his global estate and shipping company.
"If I sign, you let Clara and Leo walk," Julian demanded, his voice steady.
"You don't get to make demands!" Victoria shouted, her eyes wide with unhinged authority.
Julian slowly reached into his coat pocket and pulled out a sleek black pen.
He walked over to the drum and opened the document folder.
"Julian, no!" Clara begged, tears streaming down her face.
"He's giving up everything for us..." Clara thought, her heart aching.
Julian looked back at Clara and gave her a subtle, barely perceptible wink.
He slammed the pen down onto the paper and signed with aggressive flourish.
"There," Julian said, throwing the pen to the floor. "It's yours."
Victoria grinned maniacally, snatching up the signed documents to inspect the signature.
"Finally!" she gasped, clutching the papers to her chest.
"Now, kill them all," Victoria ordered cold-bloodedly to the guards above.
Before the guards could pull their triggers, heavy explosive blasts rocked the warehouse doors.
The steel doors blew inward with a blinding flash and deafening boom.

Police tactical units spilled into the building, shouting orders at the top of their lungs.
"Federal agents! Drop your weapons now!" a voice boomed over a loudspeaker.
