Chapter 7 - THE ROAD TO NOWHERE
Raymond grabbed both children by their collars and hoisted them violently into the back seat of the SUV.
He slammed the door, jumped into the driver's seat, and floored the accelerator.
The tires squealed loudly, spitting gravel and water as the vehicle roared onto the main highway.
Behind them, three black luxury SUVs spun out from the estate driveway, giving chase at breakneck speeds.
"Are you hurt, Lily?!" Raymond demanded, looking at her through the rear-view mirror.
"I'm okay! Uncle Raymond, you came for me!" she cried out.
"Of course I came. I promised your mother I would never let Victor destroy you," Raymond said grimly.
He turned his gaze to Leo in the mirror, his eyes razor-sharp.
"You did good, kid. You got the antidote to her in time."
"Who are you people?!" Leo yelled, pressing his back hard against the leather seat as the SUV swerved wildly.
"Why is everyone trying to kill me?!"
"Because you're holding the master key to Victor Sterling's entire fortune, kid," Raymond revealed coldly.
"What key?! I don't have anything!" Leo screamed in total panic.
"The wax seal on that paper you brought into the estate," Raymond explained, taking a sharp left turn onto a dark mountain pass.
"It wasn't a note from a syndicate. It was a micro-drive disguised as a wax seal."
"It contains the entire financial ledger of Victor's illegal arms trades and his wife's murder plot."
"And when you broke that seal in front of him... you automatically broadcasted the decryption key to every federal server in the country."
Leo stared at his muddy hands in total shock.
"Which means," Raymond added, his voice dropping into a deadly tone, "Victor isn't just trying to stop you."
"He has put a five-million-dollar bounty on all three of our heads."
"And every dirty cop and mercenary in this state is coming for us right now."

Suddenly, the side window of the SUV shattered into a thousand dangerous glass shards.
A heavy bullet ripped through the headrest right between Leo and Lily.
